Rural Hunterdon County, big properties
Tewksbury Township is one of the largest municipalities in Hunterdon County at nearly 32 square miles, but with a population under 6,000 it is also one of the least dense. The landscape is defined by rolling farmland, horse properties, wooded parcels, and the villages of Oldwick, Mountainville, and Cokesbury. Large lot zoning keeps the rural character intact.
The terrain includes open meadows, wooded hillsides, and areas near the base of what locals call Hell Mountain. The Tewksbury Trail Association maintains an extensive network of horseback riding trails, which gives a sense of how central the equestrian culture is here.
