Every walkway is built on a full excavated and compacted gravel base with proper edge restraint and polymeric sand in the joints. Transitions to existing concrete, asphalt, or other surfaces are graded carefully so there are no trip hazards or water pooling issues. The finished walkway should feel solid, drain properly, and look like it belongs to the house.
